The past two weeks have been quite barren for weekly comics that I’m interested in so it is encouraging to see a longer list of titles that I’m picking up tomorrow. Although it must be said that there is at least one series that is getting one last chance to impress me or I’m dropping it.
Batman and Robin #5
It’s no secret that I am very quickly becoming a huge Batman fan again, I have boxes and boxes of Batman titles from the 90s but after the “No Man’s Land” crossover event I just couldn’t do it anymore (there were a LOT of Bat titles at that stage as well making it an expensive series of titles to follow).
So after quite a bit of time away from Gotham I jumped back on with the changing of the guard and the launch of the new Batman and Robin series. It’s been a great ride so far and even though there has been an artist change I still feel this is the freshest Batman has been since the occasionally appearing All-star Batman and Robin.
Last issue they made fun of the fact that Robin’s current costume is a hoodie. That easily gets me across the line for this issue.
Doom Patrol #3
This is one of the series that for me is on notice, if this issue doesn’t blow me away it is out the door. I was a huge fan of the surreal Morrison run on Doom Patrol and so when I saw they were bringing it back I had a certain attachment to the characters.
The problem that I currently feel with the series and this doesn’t make it a bad series per-say but it does hamper my own enjoyment is that it feels like an Ultimates/BPRD mashup. Especially leaning towards the BPRD side of things. Of course this may be a very unfair appraisal of the two issues I’ve read so far but it is only a personal feeling. The book itself is drawn quite well and the story seems to be put together well so far, it just has those shadows over it.
Batman Annual #27
Sure I’ll give this a go, it’s been a long time since I visited the world of Azrael. I can’t really see this moving me though to want to read his ongoing series that is coming. It had want to make him a pretty charming dude for that.
Iron Man Armor Wars #3
Oh wow I’m currently following two sets of Iron Man “Armor Wars” and loving both of them at this stage. The art in this version (the other is the Ultimates line) is really fantastic and the idea of Tony Stark using Dr Doom’s armor to track down his stolen old armor collection is an idea almost too good to be true. I like also how this short series is outside of the currently confusing storyline going on in Iron Man’s main ongoing series (actually I’m not even sure which one is the “main” one at this stage, I personally think they are mishandling the franchise).
My only complaint is that it appears that the Rolex armour is back.
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #3
I’m not following any other Spider-Man story lines because personally I think the Ultimate universe is doing so much better a job handling the character right now (and for a while now). There just appears to a lot of malarkey going on in the ‘real Marvel universe’ Spider-Man books and frankly I’ve grown to dislike the current ‘jokester’ version anyway.
I’m also enjoying this more than the Ultimate Avengers storyline (which is probably only because I think there needs to be more Iron Man in that line).
And that is it for another week, I’m not buying any Deadpool comics because I’m a little Deadpool’ed out, if it isn’t Wolverine guest starring then it’s Deadpool, way to go flogging Weapon X characters Marvel!
Special note: Lego Robo Attack
Whilst not exactly comic book related I am picking up this sweet Lego pack tomorrow as well:

Waiting for the Batman & Robin to be compiled into a TPB. Been hearing great stuff about it. Love Quitely's work on All Star Superman so can't wait to see his Batman stuff.
I wish I could get away with buying Lego:(
Comics and Lego, what a great week. Now all you need is some sugary cereal
You reviews notwithstanding, I find myself getting bored with mainstream superhero comics. I mean, we all grew up on those guys, how about some new blood (Powers, on the other hand, had too much blood)
I'm really loving Batman and Robin it has been a sharp new direction in the Batman books.
I started buying the monthlies because in my opinion DC doesn't do the trades as well as Marvel – Marvel I can guarantee they'll have the trade paperback pretty much straight away.
Coco Pops Cocoa Rocks every morning
Mainstream comics do have a lot of issues but I'm fairly selective with the issues I'll pick up.
I only just started reading Powers actually – got the first couple of collected books – don't know if I will go to the expense of getting subsequent series but I'm considering their upcoming monthly series.
Well that is just really really disappointing. I was looking forward to getting one for my girls (so that I could play with it.)
K-Mart has them as well as Myer and Toyworld (but at the more expensive price)
