Zombie Iron Man surfing on an eagle – sounds cooler than it is

I’m giving up on Marvel Zombies.

I should have when they decided to focus on the third string characters in Marvel Zombies 4, but I didn’t listen to my own common sense. It should be noted that even Marvel don’t seem to care as they haven’t bothered to update their zombie page.

When I saw the first issue of Marvel Zombies The Return featured Spider-Man, I guessed he would be whining on about eating Mary-Jane and Aunt what’s-her-face (I just remembered her name but I’m standing by my original copy) so I didn’t bother jamming it into an already overcrowded comic book schedule.

But then issue two came along and it featured Iron Man.

I’m a sucker for Iron Man being featured in any cross over and get quite angry when he isn’t focused on or given a large role.

So I relented.

The cover for some reason or the other has a zombie Iron Man sky surfing on a giant eagle. Normally I would find this to be an awesome concept for about seven seconds, on the eighth second I lose focus and start wondering why…

Never mind the cover, the internal art was lame, the story was lame, I nibbled a corner of page six to see if it tasted good and guess what?

LAME.

Also Tony never puts the armour on, it’s all Rhodes…

ok...? why isn't iron man eating it? why isn't he using his rockets too fly? How the heck does that peuny eagle hold up a half weighted but still very heavy iron man? I'm a sucker for zombies And Iron Man I gotta tell ya ,so when i heard about Iron Man being a Zombie I thought sweet! The comics started out very cool then got lame. I meen how the heck does iron man stay brilliant when his brain is rotting out the side of his head? But GOD this picture is stupid.

These are all valid questions and you're right, a story mixing Iron Man and zombies should be all shades of awesome. This clearly is not though :(

Yeah the eagle is actually not a zombie and you're right he doesn't seem that perturbed to have Iron Man riding on his back.

It's all very weird.

Also the eagle doesn't feature in the storyline either.

You know, Mark Evanier could have used that idea for Groo the Wanderer. Groo could have been the only one to save the town from the undead because he was slow of mind. Hey! It's as least as funny as a standard Groo ;)

See, this is just bad all around.

A. It's a cross-over event. While those CAN be cool, most of the time - not so much.
B. It zombifies the heroes. That's just jump-the-shark material.
C. It has zombies. 95% of zombie stories are dumb.

On a related note... what the hell is the fascination with zombies lately? Every where I turn somebody's doing a zombie version of something! It's gotta stop!

I'm not really sure why zombies are so hot right now, I was just having this discussion the other day where we were saying that the saturation point has been reached and I'm now over zombies.

That being said I have got another post for either this week or next week talking zombies... any band wagon will do :P

I'm calling a Poe on that cover. There is no way a cover that terrible would be published. EVEN for an extraordinarily tired concept like Marvel Zombies.
