I saw some pretty awesome films at the Brisbane International Film Festival, there was only one that I didn’t like but then I didn’t hate it either and found it worthwhile watching at least to have seen it and its wonderful cinematography.

One of the films that I did like was ‘Les Amants’ or ‘The Lovers’ directed by Louis Malle, it’s a French film made in 1958.  It was just a real joy to see a black and white film up on the big screen where they belong.

I did also learn a couple of things from the film as well:

  1. Car design should have stopped in 1958
  2. French cinematography is extraordinary
  3. The actress Jeanne Moreau is amazing and mesmerising

I would agree all of that with this caveat:

“Car BODY AND EXTERIOR design should have stopped in 1958″

I’ll keep disc brakes, power steering, seat belts, air bags, crumple zones non-sealed-beam headlights, cruise control, more than 20 MPG and an engine whose oil seals don’t leak sieves thank you very much.
