Well I’m finally posting the photos of my three part return to painting. I’m calling it Coffee and Capes and the first part is titled Espresso Macchiato.
You have to be a little forgiving here, I haven’t painted in years, all my paint is pretty shitty (and old), the brushes are all shitty (and old) so this is more experiment rather than polished piece. In saying that however I did want to actually do something and there are elements in this that I really love, and parts that needed work, or at least more experience.
I like the medium, I will do plenty more in it and as I type this I’m waiting on one of the layers of paint to dry in the third piece.
If you take a look at the thumbnail sketch I did to guide me you’ll see that the costume changed a little in the process. But the overall theme that I wanted went right.

That does have something going on. Rather like American Primitive meets Edward Hopper.
Oils, I take it? Gotta go acrylic.

I like it because there are ideas within it so whilst I would have liked to have done more it still has the central thought I was having.
Nope it’s all acrylics! I actually wouldn’t mind trying out the oil paints.
Ah, with the mention of drying, I thought oils. My wife’s an acrylic artist and she has to use retarder quite frequently to slow the drying process.
I see this work as an initial study, not as a finished work. I think you should refine it as it’s a fun idea.
