• I stumbled upon your blog while searching for information on a particular SGU episode, and I'm hooked! Was even more excited to note you did a podcast!

However, I have to confess to having a soft spot for Search For Spock. You see, I bought the album in the very early 90's, and I played it for the first time on a new amp and Australian-made speakers (plus a Yamaha Subwoofer that was the bee's-knees back then)- the System's first run, with a CD I'd never heard before! I'd seen the film many times, so I thought I was familiar with the soundtrack! My parents weren't home so I had the house to myself, and had the volume on "sensibly loud"! The CD came to what I thought was the end, and I was just getting up to change CD's to listen to Blade Runner, when Search For Spock started! And the Yamaha REALLY kicked in! OK, it may sound really bad on headphones, but cranked up on a decent system with good bass? That piece rocks!

As for Make It So... does this ring a bell? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWUp2MhVvwQ

Oh wow you know I'd gone through my whole life up till now never having heard the disco version of the Star Wars theme, I'm unsure how to proceed now :P

Actually I remember Bill Murray used to sing a song to Star Wars on SNL.

I have a soft spot for the Search for Spock song myself, when it comes up on my iphone I very rarely skip it.

Oh and welcome to QYDJ too - the podcasts will be starting up again - probably even this weekend.
  • Thanks for making a podcast of this.

I’m an old school ST music fan, I couldn’t stand the Enterprise theme.

The ST Make it So reminds me of that terrible Star Wars disco song that came out in the 70s. Somewhere, Jerry Goldsmith is spinning in his grave.

Loving the Podcasts, keep it up

  • oh that was great. your most entertaining podcast to date for mine.

maybe i'm alone in this but I *really* like the Enterprise theme. From the first time I heard and every time since.

I also couldn't find any traces of 'Make It So' online. Truly strange music.

Your're biased to Star Trek themed podcasts :P

I don't hate the Enterprise theme, I'm not sure I'm going to say I love it either.

Make it so is an enigma - I'll post scans of the CD cover etc on the weekend.

It was 22 minutes for me.
  • Lee
    22 minutes of heaven?
  • MC
Well, you were divine... the Star Trek music was not.
  • Lee
Well that goes without saying of course :)
  • Wow... The only use for that Generations promotional theme is machinima of the Star Trek characters dancing in a cheesy YouTube video. It is, however, perfect for that.

Why did that Search for Spock clip make me want to go see St. Elmo's Fire?

It's encouraging to know that composers who actually do have good music to their credit can write something that horrific. Maybe the opposite ratio will hold true for me and I'll get a couple good tunes out one day.

One question... did you mean for the podcast to just end like that in the middle of the Spock music (17:47)? While I'm not lobbying for more of that kind of torture, it was a bit extra disconcerting to drop off like that.

I am surprised that Make it So hasn't been used on youtube a lot more, I couldn't actually find any reference to it anywhere online which worried me that I was cracking up but I certainly have the physical CD.

If you still have trouble with the player you may need to download the track :(
  • It didn't end there for me. I think you downloaded a dodgy copy. Try it again.

Typical bloody pirates - inferior burnt copies hitting the streets just minutes after going live.
  • Weird... I was playing it from the website directly. I've come back and now it's 22 minutes. Now it feels complete. To think I almost missed the end of that song!

LOL there's no spoilers in this ;)

Actually I don't even mention the latest film.
  • Der Mr Sargent

I am writing to you on behalf of Mr Client Mr Daniel Hughes of allthatcomeswithit.com

It has come to our attention that not only did you not provide our client with the agreed podcast entitled: Indiana Jones and the Mystery of the Enchanted Ukulele. but you also included our clients musical masterpiece in a program featuring "awful music".

Is it to be taken that you are insinuating that our clients musical output is "awful"? If so we demand that immediate financial recompense be provided immediately or risk not being provided with quality mp3 tracks with which to garnish your podcasts in the future.

I hope you treat this matter with the seriousness that it deserves.

    Yours.

    Dear Mr McCrevis,

I would like to take the time to formally respond to your outrageous claims of slander towards the musical genius otherwise known as Dan.

Obviously his inclusion amongst such truly horrible music was to serve as a palate cleanser so as to clear the senses and allow the experience to be greatly enhanced.

On record we at the QYDJ legal team would like to assure you, your client and the general public that at QYDJ we hold the music of 'Dan' in the highest regard (except for the guy who works in the mail room, but he's a right loser so don't worry about him anyway) and look forward to featuring future releases by the artist.

    Your sincerely
