This week’s podcast is all about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and their adventures on the big screen, and frankly I’m a little turtle’d out. It’s just a lot of material to take in and I rarely see that many films in a week, so watching four was quite a stretch.
Good news for you podcast fans, there will be a shorter podcast being released either tonight or tomorrow where Dan, Matt and myself talk Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the cartoon series, and then I’m taking a break from the turtles, I’m not talking about them, I’m not Twittering about them and I certainly won’t be rapping ‘go ninja, go ninja, go’.

There were some really funny moments here Lee (mostly revolving around the second film). And you seem to be able to fill the better part of an hour without any little bits from anyone else… so good show all around.

It did feel a little weird flying solo actually but the mini podcast will more than make up for that! You and Dan sent through too much good material for me to set it aside and keep all to myself.
I’ve emailed you already about the show, but as MC says, it really was good. You sounded incredibly at ease and very funny.
I’m not sure about suggesting that you play my ukulele efforts to people you want to be friends with though. Sounds like a good way to make enemies to me.

There is a simple magic around the ukulele and when combined with the ninja turtle theme (or in your case the hero turtles) it takes it to another level.
I’m going to break the mysterie and tell you I voted on #2, why in anyone’s name would I do that…well because honestly I couldn’t remember too much about which movie I liked best (or what I réally thought about the movies) because it’s been ages since I’ve seen them and I wanted to vote for a movie which didn’t have a vote yet. And now I’m laughing to hear your heart skipped a beat because of it

Oh and hush about Dutch cinema, I was born in 1984 which means I was überyoung when I visited those movies and I probably liked them all back then, yes even #2 (go ninja go ninja etc haha). Against all advice (about #2 &3) I’m going to watch the movies the coming weeks just because I’m sure I’m going to look at them from a whole other viewing point (in terms of if they are good..instead of if they wére good/I liked them
On a sidenote I think you have to remember that these movies were made for kids in the early nineties and not for the spoiled movie watchers that we’ve become by now. Which of course isn’t an excuse for all badness that probably was in the movies. But I think most moviewatchers have become more demanding.
In Dutch you could use a great diminuative for the word ‘podcast’ , a mini (or small) podcast would end up ‘podcastje’. (prounounce it something like podcastyùh).
Oh and because it’s probably going to take to long to get my mic at home working again I’m at least going to try and use the mic over at the house where I’m now to get my name across on mp3

Dude, I’m not listening to a word of criticism from you about the pronounciation of your name until I forget that you voted for TMNT2.
Actually I’ll gratefully accept a pronounciation guide to your name as I know I keep ball’sing it up. For the meantime I’ll just refer to you as that dutch guy who liked TMNT2.
It’s an interesting point that you make about the films being aimed at children but in my defence the first film delivers on a lot of levels and I just think it is a shame that they didn’t follow that model into the second and third films. The fourth film really captures it as well, possibly better.

I highly recommend revisiting the films (even the middle ones) I was just feeling a little pressured time wise but I’m really glad I watched them again and have become even more versed in the ways of the Ninja Turtle.
I just finished watching Waterworld for next week and it was REALLY interesting revisiting that!
I was at my parents place this afternoon and I remembered I wanted to get my old videotapes and guess what I found….a taped version of TMNT 1 & 2! which means I don’t even have to download them, I can just finally hook up my scart cable and watch them on tape, 90s style! Oh and I’ll be sure to put in my 2 cents about Waterworld.
Finally caught up on this. Nicely done. Good and accurate analysis of the films (at least the ones I saw).
I feel the need to defend #2 a little, just because no one else will, so here you go: it… well… wasn’t Caddyshack 2.

I had no idea of the female ninja turtle! But then that was when my kids were still babies.
like I said to you the other day on Twitter – it’s funny having my young bloke into what my youngest brother was into as a young blokes.
My young fella has some of the cartoon series on dvd (no idea which one) – I think the cartoons work a bit better than the movies, but the first movie (at least) was and still is quite watchable. Thinking of dodgy sequels…… lots of 80′s movie’s sequels were dodgy as all get out. The phenonemon of sequels as good as original movies is much more recent than that. I can’t remember ever watching the second or third movies – probably for that very reason.
Have meant to watch the most recent one but somehow never got around to it – Young bloke will notice it one day and I’m sure we will.
Splinter was very wooden and puppet like unlike the turtles. I think they pulled the turtles off well overall with the kinds of dialogue, jokes and attitudes they displayed as well as how they moved/looked.
Have you seen the Simpson’s parody of 24? Funny as!
And yes. Shoulder pads are an icon of the 80′s – integral for power women business fashion and bad guy costumes.

The TMNT computer film is really good and I think kids would love it actually.
Shredder has the ultimate shoulder pads in those films
